A good camera for the price

This camera is a good camera for the price.

The picture come out really great it really brings out the detals on some thing.

To take a picture in the house you do have to have the flash on or they come out to dark!.

I love takening picture of my dog and with this camera the hair is shine and you can tell that it looks reall life b/c you can tell the nose is wet!.

When i first got this i will be honest i didn't like it and i was going to bring it back but then i got used to it and figer out how to take the picture the right way and they came out great so it is some what hard to learn!

The manual on how the camera works was not good it only had like 5 page to read and that was it so you do have to figer out a lot of stuff on your own.

The software that came with it will not work with my computer i am not sure if b/c i have aother Kodak easyshare camera and i had download the soft ware i am thinking that the reason why it would not work with my computer!

delay
By JaelchenVerified Reviewer from PA on 1/14/2008
Pros:
Quiet
Cons:
Slow Sensor
Best Uses:
Art, Documentary, Fun, Photojournalism, Travel
Describe Yourself:
Professional
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Unfortunately, I am totally dissatisfied with the camera: z712. With the delay of taking a picture the camera is useless for me.

This camera does NOT take any Snapshot I tired to capture. With all settings I capture a picture that is after the fact.
For example:
When taking the picture of a child eating an ice cream cone, the snap shot I want to have is that of the child having the cone in his mouth. The picture that the camera produces is that of the child having the ice cream cone already away from his.
When taking a picture of a child sliding downhill with a sled, the picture the camera produces is that of the child already off the sled.

I have taken out and replaced the batteries, changed settings, taken pictures with different settings, each time there is a delay.

With the delay the camera is useless for me.

I wouldn't buy another kodak again

I bought this camera and when I got it, the rubber lense cover was a little lose, but I didn't think much of it because I was just getting ready to go to Brazil. I went to Brazil and while there, the rubber piece fell off. I thought I could easily put it back on, and left the camera on my dresser in my room. NO thanks to Brazil and the 100% humidity there, moisture got in my camera and wouldn't work. I guess somewhere in the manaul it says to not use this camera in a humid place...but who would know by looking at the models in the store that you couldn't use it in a humid place? I read the manual 3 times now and I am still trying to find out where it says to not use it in humidty...anyways....

SOOO..after a long time on the phone with Kodak, they refused to give me a new camera...because it was "exposed to water" and therefore makes the warranty become invalid. Also, the repairman says that water cannot get in the lense area where the rubber part fell of...so please SOMEONE explain how it got wet inside. So, since the one I got in the first place was a reject...Kodak was so nice and offered me a 15% discount for a new Kodak camera or pay to have my old one shipped back to me. WHY WOULD I WANT A BROKEN CAMERA BACK and the 15% coupon..like a slap in the face...come on...AND WHY WOULD I WANT ANOTHER KODAK CAMERA THAT I CAN'T USE ON MY VACATIONS??

DON'T BUY THIS CAMERA. THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF AND THEN TREAT YOU LIKE BAD OVER THE PHONE.

Kodak dropped the ball on this one!
By DannyVerified Purchaser from Easley, SC on 10/24/2007
Pros:
Quiet
Cons:
Dark Pictures, High Battery Consumption, Problem with SD Card, Shaky Operation, Slow Sensor
Describe Yourself:
Casual user
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I have used several different Kodak Easy Share models. This one has to be the worst one yet! Apart from poor picture and video quality (even for a camera), it constantly depleted batteries and even corrupted an SD card that had pictures on it. I lost all the pictures on the card! I would not recommend this camera to anyone.

Great camera for the price
By Shoots lots outsideVerified Purchaser from Southeastern USA on 10/14/2007
Pros:
Bright LCD, Great zoom, Panorama feature, Small Lag Time
Cons:
Loud
Best Uses:
Photojournalism, Travel
Describe Yourself:
High level amateur, Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is an absolutely great camera, especially for the price. This is the second Kodak camera I have had with the Schneider lens, and it makes a huge difference in picture quality. I stepped up to this camera to get the 7+ MP quality and the much higher optical zoom.

The first Kodak I had took 12,000+ pictures in a little over 3 years and has been passed down to my parents. It's still going strong. I expect this Z712 to last me a long time and give me a much better option when I need high quality and zoom without having to take my bulky SLR. This camera is great for families, as well as enthusiasts. The panorama in-camera stitching feature has been an unexpected bonus that I wasn't expecting to use, but I love it. My friend is already convinced he has to get one after using mine and seeing the pictures.

The only knock I have so far is the noise on startup and when zooming.

Pretty good lens, good electronics
By MaxAirflowVerified Purchaser from Orange County, Ca. on 10/12/2007
Pros:
Comfortable Controls
Cons:
Slow Sensor
Best Uses:
Art, Documentary, Fun, Travel
Describe Yourself:
Casual user
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I chose not to step up to a "Real" digital camera with removable lenses, so this 12x optical zoom was a compromise, and I have to say I'm pretty happy. When the exposure is right, picture quality is excellent. The highest shutter speeds are too slow for high speed subjects, but this may improve somewhat as I gain more experience with manual settings.

I'm very happy with the photos taken with my Kodak Z712 EasyShare camera. I've received VERY positive feedback about photos taken with this camera. This camera is the BOSS! I've a Minolta Maxxum 3000i, which I very seldom use. I'm also a prior owner of an Olympus UZ510 and was very, very UNHAPPY with it before getting the Z712, which I take everywhere I go. My Z712 is my true sidekick. This is a Best Buy for me.

I loved taking this new camera to Scotland on vacation. The zoom worked easily and the pictures I took were wonderful. The only negative was that I didn't realize it required lithium AA batteries which are more expensive than regular heavy duty ones. However, I have been able to use rechargeable batteries in this camera, though they don't last very long.

Ad sticker said rechargeable CRV-3 was included. My sister-in-law got one PLUS a charger with her camera. Not true in my case. Many emails with Kodak resulted in nothing. The CRV-3 batteries cannot be recharged....[$] for 2-pak.They don't last very long. No local store had a recharger for the KLIC-8000 for this camera. [...] had no rechargeable batteries for this camera. Why? You would expect the store selling the camera to have the other supplies that would accompany it. The clerk pointed out that on page 1 of the manual it showed AA rechargeable batteries were acceptable. The camera wouldn't even stay turned on with those.Thank goodness I had all these problems. I returned the camera to [...] with no problem (everyone was sympathetic to my cause). I bought a Fuji digital camera. I had to give up 2x of optical zoom but the closeups are fantastic....never blurry. The trade-off was well worth it. I didn't want a camera that took special batteries that were so expensive and hard to find. I already have 2 AA rechargers and a ton of AA batteries so the Fuji works out just fine. In a pinch, AA regular batteries are much easier to find almost anywhere! A rechargeable KLIC-8000 was [$] but no one had a recharger to go with it.

Overall I enjoy this model Kodak. It is my 3rd digital Kodak. Pics are great but I am having a problem with the downloading of pics to my computer. For this reason I can't recommend it. I have lost over 1000 photos from the previous 2 kodak cameras. Same model just updated versions. My computer insists that the files are there but "may be damaged" They show up to the eye with a zig zag cut through the center and can no longer be accessed for any kind of viewing or use. For this reason I would be hesitant to recommend this camera. Also I had a fair deal of trouble locating the appropriate battery that fits this camera even though it was supposed to have come with a rechargable battery. The enclosed battery very plainly states do not recharge.

I bought the z712 because I thought it would be better than my z612 which I love and faster than my p712.It is neither. The shutter is slower than the other models with fewer settings, no recharagable battery and fewer settings. It is not an improvement on the z612 which I think is an awesome camera. the z712 does shoot good shots and great zoom but is slow on the shutter. The z612 is faster, more of a quality feel and shoots amazing photos with more settings. In comparison to the P712 the z712 is half the price and is slower. Retail is currently[$].Good Home camera/family camera if you don't want to shoot action, running etc....The placement of the SD CARD cover IS flimsy and will break. On the p712 and z612 it is in the same compartment as the battery area.

This camera was a huge dilemma for us. The camera has a great price, and takes fantastic pictures. But Kodak tried to sae money in the oddest places, such as the lens cover. Almost all cameras that we have seen have a built in lens cover. If the camera is not turned on, the lens is protected. This camera has an old fashioned plastic cap. This became a huge issue over time. Also, this camera does not come with any case whatsoever. Nothing. Small thing, but also, how many cameras these days come without any case?
