Having tried other brands of scanners and printers I have been using Canon Products for last 5 years and am very pleased with their quality and workmanship. This scanner included.
I use this both in personal and business.
My only disappointment is with the software that is included, Canon could have chosen much better software to include, however if you are computer savvy, there is better software out that there that will improve your enjoyment using this scanner

The software is not as easy to use as my Epson scanner, nor does it have as many options for cropping, etc. before scanning. The quality of the scans is comparable to my 5-year-old Epson, and the product is definitely streamlined, so it doesn't take up a lot of space.

Bought to take with on travel (replaced pinch feed stick scanner). Though it takes up a little more space performance is worth it. Software was easy to setup and worked first time. I really like the USB power feature. One cable and truly portable with laptop in remote environments.

Just remember to Lock the scan mechanism before travel.

You can hardly beat the price on this Canon LiDE90 scanner but you can certainly beat the quality with just about any other scanner on the market. If you are going to do more than basic document scanning to OCR or only the occasional photo, you may be better off spending a few more dollars. Canon's reputation is a good one so you could easily find another Canon branded scanner with more features for a bit more money.

Quit working after 13 months

Best Uses:
Homeoccasional scanning
Describe Yourself:
Casual User
Primary use:
Business
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I purchased the scanner in february 2007. The software is a bit confusing at times - probably because I didn't use it enough. I just starting using it more often a month ago and it has already quit working. The scan head wont move and now the spring is undone that pulls it and I can't get inside it. Either way - it's not worth trying to fix. It lasted over the 1 year warranty by a month.
It would be a fine scanner for occasional home or office use. It takes up a lot of space used laying flat and the stand it came with seemed way too unstable. So I left it flat with calculator and stuff on it and it got pretty scratched up on top.
good scanner for the low price though and I may have just gotten an unlucky one

it saved the day

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

My daughter needed to work on her high school year book after school hours and for under $100, we solved the problem- plus got a scanner that would work with Vista (the one we bought 2 years ago wouldn't...). Plus, it is so light weight and "locks" for transportation.
Haven't figured out if it can also be used with other computers if already registered to our machine; to be able to transport it to school and back would be ideal.

Nice little scanner
By AvrilaVerified Purchaser from Phoenix, AZ on 3/8/2008
Pros:
Easy Setup, Good Value, Travel-friendly, Widely Compatible
Cons:
Slow
Best Uses:
Documents for copying, Photos and Graphics
Describe Yourself:
Casual User
Primary use:
Personal
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Decent low-cost scanner. It has a little trouble picking up text from the inside edges of thick books, and the gutter fade correction in the software isn't great--I ended up cleaning it up manually in my regular graphics software. For everything else I do (although I haven't tried its OCR yet), it does fine at a price that was easy even for me to afford. If you're looking for something for heavy graphics work you'll probably need something with louder bells and whistles.

It's also USB-powered so it doesn't need a wall outlet. USB power is a tradeoff because I think the low power use might be related to the slightly slow scanning rate, but for me it's worth it to have one less cord because I have a small desk and rearrange often for different types of projects. Also, between its small size and not needing a separate power source, it's practical for mobile users.
