This is one of the slickest little units I've seen in a long time. Here are just a few of the things I like about it:

* It can hold two different sizes of labels, so you don't have to switch out the rolls if you use, say, a regular-size address label and a larger shipping label.

* The thermal labels work great - no ink or toner, nothing to buy but blank labels.

* The DYMO software is excellent and easy to use. In no time, I was designing, saving, and printing labels, complete with my company logo and USPS-approved barcode. I imported my customer database right into the label software and printed about 550 labels in less than 8 minutes. The speed is really amazing - less than one second per label!

* Address verification and correction is built into the software. This feature checks the address against the USPS database, makes corrections, and adds ZIP+4 as needed. Slick!

All in all, I will get a lot of use out of this unit. I recommend it highly!

Bought on strength of reviews and returned product after 1 use.Reason: Each label retracts 1/4" back into device prior to printing, in order to "reset the printer head," as tech support explained. Problem is that in doing so the labels on the strip catch on the serrated teeth in the slot, causing a loud snapping sound which also puts teeth marks on the label's edge. Tech support said this was the machine's m.o. and not to worry. Unfortunately, as I attempted to tear the label strip off the machine, the edge caught on the teeth as it retracted and jammed, glue-side down, inside the slot. When I lifted the front cover to clear the jam, the postage labels took off running from the other slot and I had to unplug the machine--all this while on a call to tech support. I was then told to remove the front cover to un-feed the jam. This turned out to be a real chore, as the levers designed to do this are flimsy and resistant and the labels stick inside the slot--not fun. These design flaws are fatal.

Very easy to build address lists. Software interface, great job. I still have the previous models (315, 330, 400). I like the space saving aspect and two printers on one USB port.

          • Q:

I have a Dymo LabelWriter 330 Turbo. Will the 450 Twin Turbo use the existing list that I have or will I have to add the labels again?
            Asked on 3/9/2013 by JohnP

            1 answer

            • A:

Save the address list to something other than default location. When you install the new label maker, select that location as your address book. Your address list will show up automatically.

Will this work with Windows 8?
            Asked on 1/24/2013 by Anonymous

            1 answer

            • A:

The 450 Twin Turbo will work with Windows 8. If the installation disc has not yet been updated to include Windows 8 printer drivers, updated drivers are available on the Dymo website.

          • Q:

Is the DYMO LabelWriter 450 compatible with the USPS Intelligent Mail Barcode because all images of the DYMO seem to show the old POSTNET barcode?

Also, I'd prefer not to export my database into an address list with the DYMO software. If I make changes to an address within my database, I don't want to then have to make changes in the DYMO software too. Is there a possible way for my database and DYMO to communicate and update simultaneously? My company uses GiftWorks Premium 2013.

            • CUSTOMER CARE

              A:

Yes, for item 796637, the Intelligent Mail barcode is now used by the USPS instead of the POSTNET barcode to represent the nine-digit (ZIP+4) code on your labels. You would be able to only update your database and then you select the correct size and style for label, as well as the information that will go onto the label.

Are third party labels available that can be used with this label printer - e.g., Staples or Avery brand labels, or are you required to use DYMO brand labels only?

            1 answer

            • A:

Yes, there are quite a few third party labels that make DYMO compatible labels. The site labelvalue.com has a good assortment that is compatible with the DYMO LabelWriter 450 as well as other DYMO label printers.
