These radios do not reach 36 miles without a base unit with a large outside antenna. It is important to purchase some kind of case if you use it for work, if dropped too many times the fail to transmit farther than maybe 100'.

            For a near-the-top-of-the-line item from Midland, these communicators are TERRIBLE. Best suited, um, if you have a sore throat and can't yell to someone in the yard with you. Nobody would believe 36 mile range but c'mon, how about 3.6 miles in this RURAL area? Save your money, I wouldn't take another set if they were free.

            Purchased for the VOX feature. The wife and I ride bikes and we get separated we want to communicate our location. Tried to set uo the VOX. It worked very sporadic. Never did get to work as difficult to program. It also would need to be prgramed when turned on again. It may work for you

Someone that is not using a Midland radio will not be able to access all channels that are available to someone using a Midland radio.                 This has three adjustable power settings to help conserve battery life, so it varies. It is reported as being excellent, however. The batteries are fully charged within 3-5 hours.
