Q: As a quilter, I'm always searching for products that will mark on fabric and be easily removed without harming the fabric. I've been told these pens are able to do just that by ironing the markings to make them disappear (or freezing everything to make them re-appear). Do any quilters out there know if it actually works? Asked on 5/11/2012 by Sweet Pea from Virginia Know the answer? Answer this question 1 answer A: Because there are specific pens and markers made especially for fabrics, as a quilter, I would be very leery of using these on fabrics. Some fabrics do absorb the ink differently, and it could result in permanent staining. This would be especially true on cotton prints like batiks. I think these gel-ink pens are made especially for paper, and it is too risky to use on fabric. In addition, the ink may look like it disappears on fabric, but may show up again later when exposed to certain lights or temperature differences, which may ruin a quilt. Q: Are the Pilot FriXion Eraseable Gel-Ink pens acid free? Asked on 1/27/2011 by Anonymous Know the answer? Answer this question 2 answers A: This pen provides smooth writing with waterproof, acid-free, smearproof gel ink! Answered on 2/4/2011 by Steve S. from Staples A: Pilot does not mention 'acid free' on the package. They do mention that the color will disappear at 140 deg.F. and that you can restore the color by sticking it in the freezer til it reaches 14 degrees Fahrenheit which will bring back the color. So it is not inert after it dries for what that is worth. Secret messages anyone? Answered on 5/3/2011 by wordspreader from San Rafael, CA
