Despite the reviews on this safe, I decided to go forward with purchase because the sale price was too good to resist [...]! I figured that I could always return it if it was that horrible. However, the safe was very easy to access using the provided code and keys. I had no problem understanding the instructions as other customers. There are three types of safes, this one has advanced keypad, so use those instructions. I have only gone into the safe 7 times so far and have had no problems at all. I personally would prefer a combination lock, but that's just because I'm slightly concerned that one day I may really need to get in and be out of batteries. I will be coming back to update my review in approx 6 months if the site will allow me to. For right now, things are great, and the handle is metal, not plastic as some have stated. Also, my heart goes out to the person who was robbed. I'm curious as to wether the safe was set up according to the instructions. The door opening should be beside a solid wall; it makes it harder to pry the safe open. I think between having it oriented correctly and bolted down, theft will be very difficult. Hopefully I will never have to test that or any of the other qualities of the safe (fire, water, drop protection). Best wishes to you all

I purchased this safe to store important documents in my home. After 1 year, every item in the safe became damp and musty smelling. I kept a box of baking soda inside and changed it regularly.
After 3 years, I could not open the safe because the locking mechanism was jammed. Sentry advised that I hit the door with a rubber mallet repeatedly. If that didn't work, I would need to call a locksmith. After hitting the handle with a mallet I got it open. 3 months later, the safe no longer accepted the electronic combination. Sentry said it was a wiring problem and that I would need to call a locksmith to open it. Every locksmith I called said that the safe had to be drilled out and it would no longer be operable. I cost me $125 to open the safe and $10 to dispose of it.
I bought this safe thinking it would be a lifetime investment. What a mistake! I will never buy a Sentry safe again, nor will I buy any safe with an electronic keypad.
Comments about Sentry® Safe Fire-Safe® 1.2 Cubic Ft. Capacity:
We were robbed and they found the safe and got it open very easily. I lost all my jewerly that was inside and it was quite easily pried open with a crowbar or force. What is point of a safe that can be opened that easily. I suppose if you just put documents in there for safety in a fire. But do not buy this or this line of safes for keeping valuables inside. Our robbers were pretty low end and they popped this open no problem. I wish I could get my money back as I lost everything inside. Awful product.

We experienced problems with this safe from the start. Sometimes it would open easily; other times it wouldn't open for several tries.
We thought it was a battery issue but finally realized there must be a defect when it didn't open at all one day with new batteries.
Called Sentry customer service and they sent a new battery pack to try - but this didn't work. Finally they told us to hit it with a hammer (no joke) to get it to open!! (something about an internal mechanism that sticks???)
We took everything out and they just had us cut the keypad off and return this with the keys.
They sent a new safe and it didn't open at all when we got it.
Called Sentry and they agreed to just refund our money (it was just under the one year warranty period). They didn't even want either of the safes back...we have to dispose of them!
The driver who delivered the second one said they have a warehouse full of old/bad safes!!! Recommend finding another company to buy from...these are not well made!

We have around 20 of those safes and I think every year at least 5 break down, hinges break off, rods get blocked etc used to have 5 year warranty and good service from Sentry but now they changed warranty to 1 year, and actually they last not much longer then that, if that long!

While this does suit my purposes, for close to $300, this safe should be great. It's not. It's ok. The instructions are weak. I have owned it just a couple days and already I am seeing that you often need to enter the combo twice to get in. The handle feels cheap and loose. I want this more for fire/water saftey than security. I feel like it someone really wanted to get in, they could. Overall, I probably won't ever buy anything for Sentry again.
