You know, in the computer age, one might think that buying something like this is not necessary. I disagree. Before one can truly appreciate all the whiz-bang computer software out there, they will always be a step ahead in learning how to do something old-school. Drafting is no exception.

Staedtler's basic 12-inch scale is a necessity if you do any drafting, measuring or scaling for design. It is inexpensive, easy to use and best of all, you can interface with this quality implement at any time just using your brain, your hands and without the need for an internet hookup. As far as re-charging, the only kind of re-charging you may need might be your own imagination. If you;re out designing in thefield and need to to some quick revisions or re-design, this little gem can make you look like the intellectual design stud you want to be, or maybe already are.

Add pencils, paper, maybe an eraser, and this, plus any other drawing tools you might need can get you started designing something today. Finally, there is a huge WOW factor when someone actually witnesses you drawing or drafting. Suddenly, you;r no longer a techno-drone, but an artisan, a craftsman who can use your hands for something better than pushing a mouse or a trackball around.

A couple of usage notes: While it has three fine straightedges, this is not a thing to use to draw straight lines with. You'll only get your paper dirty and be angry later when you get lead or ink smudges on your hands. Don't use this as a cutting rule or edge either. Steel always defeats plastic. For both, get your mitts on a steel ruler, preferably with a corked back that will not slip.
