Used for fabric marking pencils, which are chalk or a waxy substance and break very easily. They work great. I also use them for regular pencils. I do not have to push on the pencils to get a great sharp point. In fact, if I do, it can break the lead/writing substance. I can sharpen well with gentle pressure. No problems with case opening unexpectedly. Would add velcro if it was a problem. I do recommend these to others, and would buy another one in a heartbeat. This is a great product, especially when I think of the ones we had as kids. The price is very acceptable during this recession. Availability is good so if I wear one out, it can be very reasonably replaced (as long as Staples is not sold out of them).

I bought this to take the LSAT. I haven't needed one in over 20 years and I'll be glad when I never need to pick up a #2 pencil again. It didn't make it through a 2 month prep-class. I'm on the market for a new one so I'm not left with a dull pencil during the exam. I think the LSAC conspires with the pencil companies to force #2 pencils.... come on, let us use mechanical pencils! Have you ever submitted a legal document in pencil? I know, it is a "flaw" question.... But, can the LSAC get the right answer? A) No B) Yes C) The pencil sharpener sharpens pencils D) plastic sharpeners sharpen better then metal E) provisional legal documents can be submitted in pencil
