Q: does the dell 942 need a color cartridge to print, i only need to use black Asked on 8/18/2010 by super from new phila ohio Know the answer? Answer this question 5 answers A: you might try looking at your print settings - most printers in their copy menu allow you to change and print "black copies" only w/o using the color cartridge Answered on 8/23/2010 by Mrs Nascarmod from Oklahoma A: i'm not sure about your printer, but for mine (dell 946), sometimes when the color cartridge is empty, i just leave it in and only buy the black ink cartridge. even when i buy the color cartridge, i sometimes just use black ink by clicking on "properties" in the print box and select "black and white only" Answered on 9/18/2010 by silky from MD A: Hello, I have a 924, I assume your printer will work similarly, but it may not. Here's what I suggest: when you click print and the print window opens, click the Properties button (top right in my program). Check the box that says "Print in Black and white." From now on you will not use the color, unless you uncheck the box. You can also remove the color cartridge, but then every time you print you get a warning that the cartridge is missing, and you have to click "Continue" to print. If the color cartridge runs out of ink (or the Dell chip tells it to quit), however, my printer stops printing. I hope this is helpful.
