Gillette was right

Printers are remarkably cheap. They get you on the cartridges. (Gillette's "Give them the razor and they'll buy blades for life) idea. Cartridges go pretty fast.
Still, both printer and ink are much improved over the last few years, and I no longer get "stripes" as the cartridge runs low. Rarely use color, so I can;'t comment on that.

I attend school online, therefore I print a lot of papers. I like the ink for this although I do not think it last very long even on "draft" setting. This ink is costly compared to my other printer and I can not purchase it anywhere except online or at staples, which is a huge inconvenience to me (I didn't know this when I bought the printer). Also I am very disappointed in the print quaility of photos, my old and cheaper to purchase and maintain printer did a much better job. I thought buying a more expensive printer by the Epson name would ensure me an upgrade in quaility, I have not found this to be true. Now that my fiance is deployed I am using a lot more ink printing pictures of the kids and myself for him, the cost is getting crazy...I will use my printer until it no longer works but I will be more selective when buying another. Ink cost and availability are the most important factors to me.

  Of course the number of pages you can get from a cartridge is based on the percent of page coverage, the text spacing, the number of photos or graphics printed versus merely printing standard text. An approximate estimate would be around 250 pages.
