I print many letters and forms as a Director of Women's Ministries. I prefer to do this at my home with my own personal printers vs. the church, and I can print at my own leisure. I use only HP ink cartridges as all my printers are HP and would use no other ink in them. I take many photos of my grandchildren and their activities. HP ink cartridges provide great copies, prints, and especially, grandkids photos.

Comments about HP 02 (C8721WN) Black Ink Cartridge:
This ink is easily water soluble and smudges or runs at the slightest hint of moisture - like a thumb print. I called HP about this and got farted off. They apparently do not care about customer feedback. Next time I will buy a Canon Printer.

Q:
What do I do to make transparencies not smear with ink? Or regular printing to not smear if the least bit of moisture comes into contact with the paper? Thanks,
Quickly remove from printer without touch print and let it dry for a lenght of time.

I rarely have my printings smear but I live in North Texas with low humidity. I've printed photo paper, and transparent sticker material but not "transparencies" per se. You may try finding another cartridge that's less smudgeable in this line I noticed when looking at photo paper they offer a few different choices but I'm not sure which we can use in our printer.

Before printing on your transparencies, use a stamper's anti-static sack to wipe down any finger prints on your transparency and shake off the excess. Carefully place the transparency into the printer tray and print. Immediately after printing, you can use a slightly warm setting on a heat gun and keeping the tool far enough away from the transparency so as not to melt it, dry the ink and you won't have any smudges.

I do several things to keep smearing from being a problem. First, us the right paper. Second, keep your print heads clean. And third, make sure that your paper is not wrinkled, bent or torn.

I would suggest attempting a "fixative" of some sort - a light spraying with hairspray might work; depends on the type of hairspray. For best results, an aerosol acrylic lacquer lightly dust-sprayed should prevent the smearing.

I've tried fixative art sprays and they don't keep the ink from smearing when wet. If it's something important, have a photocopy made--they don't smear.

If you are printing on vellum or on transparency you need to set the ink "output" to draft or transparency. Be sure to set the page aside to dry for quite a while. Also, make sure you are using inkjet transparencies and printing on the correct side. The ink will probably not dry on a gerenal transparency
