Long lasting!
I love my Kodak printer - it's fast and the ink is terrific. The XL is more expensive but seems to last longer.

I do a lot of photo copies of artwork and get good intense colour copies for my portfolio. I like the bigger cartridges as it requires less trips to the store. The only thing I question about the Kodak (or the cannon ink I used to use with my old printer) is that it seems the less I use it the fewer copies I seem to get out of the cartridge. My usage amount goes in cycles as I need it in after I have finished projects that need photo copies. If a long period of time goes by where I have only used it lightly for printing out reciepts and such it seems it still runs out about the same time. Does it dry out over time? I don't know. I heard someone say there is a timer on it. I can't imagine that is true unless it is to protect the printer from getting fouled up with old ink. Who knows? My cynical side debates the intrest of the manufacture to make money against the interest of the comsumer. I have thought about looking into ink you can buy to refill your own cartridges but feel uncomfortable risking doing it wrong. Maybe I will in the future. It's so time consuming to research every aspect of a purchase, although the internet is a great resource for that purpose. I am in my 60's so I remember not having that recourse. How great it would be just to know you are dealing with a company that puts out a great product at a fair price and not have to go into figuring out all the angles. People should not have to pay more up front, or by using an inferior product then ending up having to replace it just for peace of mind. How I wish there was a store that independently rated their products as to quality and effiency for the consumer. That's a store I would be loyal to! I think most consumers are tired of having to research every single thing they buy or possibly regret a purchase. It causes undo stress and who has the time? I picked a Kodak printer because it is an old established company that was alway reputable in the past. My first camera was a Kodak and I loved it! I converted a lot of my family photos recently and saw what ones held up over an almost fifty year period. The ones I took with my kodak still looked good. (Boy, the instamatic camera that I thought was so much fun sure was a waste. those pictures are all cracked and faded.) So my Kodak scanner and photocopier has come in handy saving my family memories. In some cases just in time. Is there a better machine out there? I don't know. Do I want to take the time to find out? No. If I hear of a great machine at a great price, or something better and significantly more efficient is invented and put on the market I might replace my Kodak. Until then I am happy with a trusted name in the industry.

Bought 05/01/2013. Printer indicating this Kodak 30XL color cartridge is already low on ink.
Have printed a max. of 50 pages since installing this Kodak 30XL color cartridge. With it already showing Low on Ink there is no way it is going to print up to 550 pages as Kodak states. Most of the documents I have printed in this time period were 85% black not color. 50 pages is 9% of what Kodak states it will print.

We write two letters a day to soldiers, and I believe in putting as much in an envelope as a stamp will carry so have a 6 page (both sides of paper) letter and a thank you note with critter pictures, a poem, and Thank you on it, folded into a card. if/when one answers back, I answer their questions, write a little about what seems to interest them, and enclose more pictures (both sides of page) again filling the envelope to the max. I am also hosting a family reunion which requires lots of pictures and articles copied.

Ink dries fast and I like that because I don't have to wait on it. Sometimes the colors may not be as crisp as I'd like, but this is not a real expensive printers, so I can't be picky considering the price. The cartridges are really easy to take out and replace. When I'm in a hurry (and I usually am), I don't want to fiddle with trying to figure out how to do something. I've used the regular cartridges and they run out of ink so quickly. I don't think the color cartridge is all that econommical, compared to the blacvk.
This Kodak 30C XL ink cartridge is NOT compatible with the ESP 5. The equivalent high yield cartridge compatible with the ESP 5 is the 10XL, Staples product number 852569.
