This was very easy to setup. It replaced an older 5 port 10/100 hub in about 5 minutes. I like having a vertical footprint option, though I am not using it that way...Read complete review

This was very easy to setup. It replaced an older 5 port 10/100 hub in about 5 minutes. I like having a vertical footprint option, though I am not using it that way currently (must not forget where I've stored the feet) I like the clean look, so it's sitting on top of the desk and that way I can monitor the link/speed lights. Only issue is lack not a clear indication of port speed - 10 vs. 100 vs.1000. Manual is only 2 pages - wish there was more technical information.

Not Very Pleased

Four of the five ports went out within three days. We use an all-gigabit network and I thought this would be a lightweight portable switch for connecting multiple workstations in a single outlet room. I realize that these are low-end but I expected it to last at least a year, not just three days.
It looked nice on a desk and if the thing would have just worked I would have loved it. The speeds were great before it crashed.

Comments about Netgear 5-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch:

I rented a vacation home for a month. The owner provided a cable modem. I have two laptops, a printer, and a Roku (for streaming video). So I bought this switch thinking I could connect everything to the internet. It didn't work because, as I later discovered, I needed a router between the modem and the switch. The ROUTER is a REQUIREMENT. This fact is not clear from the information on the box. Once I connected a router, I realized that I did not need this switch, since the computers, printer, and laptop connected to the router and worked perfectly. I should add that "as a switch" this product works fine.
