I purchased this tablet with the intentions to watch movies during my commute to and from work, now I find myself gaming on the tablet more than anything else.

The 7" form factor, combined with the light weight of the tablet, makes it very comfortable to hold for long preiods of time.

Screen:
Video and pictures, look fantastic on the 1280x800 screen. Text is rendered very crisply, and is easy to read, w/o having to zoom in. Viewing angles are wide and splendid.

Performance:
The quad core(+1) cpu, 12 core gpu, combined with android 4.1(jelly bean), offer a truly pleasant user experience, rivaling even the transformer infinity. Flicking through home screens, and widgets is seemless. Apps open very briskly, and web pgs load in a snap, thanks in part to the default chrome browser. Gaming on this tablet, has been pure bliss for me, I play gta 3, modern cambat 3, shadowgun, dead trigger, and many more titles, with nary a hiccup. Although during extended gaming, The back gets a little warm, but not hot.

Battery:
After cycling the battery for the past wk, I get about 8&1/2 hrs of med to heavy use(gaming, web browsing, and video playback). Casual users will get closer to the advertised 10hrs. The tablet chargers from 3% to 100% in about 3hrs(very good).

Design/Build quality:
Attractive design, Light weight, and thanks to the rubberized texture on the back, this tablet is a pleasure to hold. The volume rocker, and power button, is easy to locate, and offer nice tactile feedback.

minor(Cons):
No sd card, although 16gbs is enough for me personally(most of my content is in the cloud), I think the omission is a little apple-esq on google's part. Some users report of build quality issues, including loose display panels, in fact my unit has a weak spot along the left side, but its not a deal breaker for me. The speaker on this tab is anemic, my cell phone has louder output, but with a good pair of headphones you're golden.

All in all I am very satisfied with my purchase. I plan to buy another one for my fiancee(she loves this thing), once google re-stocks the 16gb version. Props to google, for the $25 play store credit, and 4.1(jellybean). The gn7 will satisfy current android users, as well as people looking to get their feet wet, in mountain view's eco-system. This tablet has a lot of great features. Of course, numero uno is bang for buck. You get a lot of features without a huge price tag. Secondly, there is a lot of content available and you can even run your apps purchased through the Amazon app store, so this is pretty much a Kindle Fire killer in my book. It's faster, has a better screen, and is pretty darned sleek.

Mine has the screen issue (the screen isn't secured properly and I have to send it back. Not a huge deal. I understand that in the tech world, there are a certain number of units that won't be perfect. Big whoop. I bought it from a Staples store and the associate literally had just got it in, so I got a big score on it!). This isn't a big deal, I called Asus (the manufacturer) and it will get fixed no problem. I'm just hesitating to send it back. I love it! The screen separation isn't that bad, it makes a very faint squeaking noise when you push on the left side and when you look closely, you can see it has lifted up by about a millimeter.

As for the "flash issue," it isn't really an issue. No Jellybean phones or tablets will have Flash. Adobe is refusing to update mobile devices period. Mobile browsers are compensating by adding Flash compatibility with their browser. If the other reviewer had spent 10 minutes googling the issue, he would have realized that this is a move by Adobe, not the fault of the Andriod operating system.

Over all, if you want something cheap, efficient, fast (did I mention it's super fast?), and a lot of bang for the buck in the tablet department, the Nexus 7 is it.

I have been looking to purchase a Nexus 7 locally since it was announced. I love the size of the screen and the updated OS compared to my phone (also Android).

For Work: I have Docs to go (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.), Adobe Reader, Evernote (notes saved via cloud), Dropbox (files via cloud), KeePassDroid (256 bit secure password manger), WiFi Advanced Configuration (used because company has wifi setup different what a home user uses), and VNC (remote software for company). Hopefully soon, some of the other programs I use at work will be added (software developers, not Google's fault).

For Play: 19 games (mix of casual, first person shooter,and puzzles), Jamie Oliver's 20 Minute Meals (because I need help cooking :) ), Amazon Kindle (ebooks), Audible (audiobooks, listen while on long trip or in office while working), Dropbox, Evernote, Facebook, iHeartRadio (if I get bored with my music or audiobooks), KeePassDroid, Google Books, Magazines, Movies, and Music, Tablet Talk (Transfer SMS from phone to tablet, easier to type), TuneIn Radio (same as iHeartRadio, different selection).

I was on the fence for this device and got caught in the hype. I am beyond glad I did. I have not been disappointed with this device at all. It feels amazing in your hands, the screen is gorgeous, the screen is amazing to the touch, is extremely responsive, and there just isn't anyway to go wrong with this device.

So this is for other techies, the types that say "I wanna void that warranty!", or if you think you might want to hack the thing.

My GF and I bought 2 of these and we love the, you're getting a decently powerful 7" tablet, you already probably know that.

You can read the other general reviews for general likes/dislikes, these are some of the things I wished I had known before buying it.

#1 Android does not have any ad-hoc networking connectivity. So if you want to tether this to your phone make sure your phone can offer tethering to it in infrastructure mode (Fixfi).

#2 Hacking the bootloader, rooting it and putting on a new ROM is simple as it gets. There is literally a windows app out there that walks you through it step by step. (Wugs Nexus Root Toolkit)

#3 It has Near Field Communication, something the specs tend to overlook

#4 It is NOT "Gorilla Glass", it is lesser "Corning Glass" to save on costs, get a case with a cover and don't treat it like your phone, it will scratch.

#5 It's camera sucks, but then that was done to save money. However the camera is still plenty good enough to scan barcodes and take simple pictures. There are multiple apps for the camera out now.

#6 If you root it you can get a OTG cable and plug things like USB flash drives into it. It has USB Host Mode functionality. (IE, you can use USB peripherals plugged into it)

#7 It is a tiny bit thicker than the Ipad, and by doing so it is FAR easier to take apart.

I am currently using mine with a hotspot and bluetooth headset to replace my cellphone.

I really enjoy my Nexus Tablet. I couldn't decide whether to get this tablet or the ipad. The size of it is great and personally I dont feel that its as fragile as the ipad. I am very pleased with my decision. The only complaint I have is the sound system. The volume doesnt go very loud.
