I love these pencils... been using them for years. In truth, I have often strayed to fancier, more "attractive" mechanical pencils, but always end up coming back to this one. The primary reason I love the Papermate pencil is because there is just enough spring to keep the lead from constantly breaking - my problem with all others. The eraser does its job and doesn't smear or leave markings behind. Again, my only complain is that the style/color is pretty boring. I'm a teacher and always looking for fun prints and colors =). Still, this is the most reliable mechanical pencil I've ever used.

I like that these are easy to use- just twist the lead out. They are not easy to refill, however, and they are easy to break. My kids (5 and 8) each broke one in the first 15 minutes, and neither one was doing anything rough to them.

        While setting with my mom, who has dementia, I like to work my crossword puzzles. Asking her to help me gives her an excuse to 'think' about something other than leafing through her magazine for the tenth time in a row. Instead of sharpening my pencil a million times, I can just use a simple twist of the pencil point and have a clean, crist, and clear point to continue with my adventure in words.

                No, while it is #2 lead, it is a hardened, break-resistant lead which is common in mechanical pencils.
