I've had problems in the past where the ink flow becomes very light and thin, maybe skips a bit too, but only after a good amount of use. There will still be ink left (you can see it), but it doesn't write well. I've also had a few that I've run dry that wrote fine until they were empty. Extended solid writing periods (essays) can also be a bit of a temporary problem, because the ink doesn't flow to the pen tip as fast as it flows onto the page. A short break/change to a different pen solves the problem.

These pens can blot a bit, and will bleed through thin paper, but not uncommonly so for this type of pen. They work best on smooth-surface paper, not good on things like construction paper. I think thats why they go into the above state. The colors are bold and bright, and I've been using this model for 8 years now.

I kept the colors she didn't want, which happened to be the "colorful" ones, and they show up well; sometimes, color ink is too light to show up, or too dark to exhibit the color they're supposed to be, but these don't have that problem.
