I don't understand the complaints of the other reviewers -- I received a brand new drive in full retail packaging, not a refurb, and there was no need for a 24-hour formatting procedure, I just installed and used Seagate DiscWizard from the CD provided and the drive was good to go in just a few minutes. Just to play it safe, I did a Windows surface scan ("chkdsk /r" from the command prompt) which took a few hours and found no problems. This was a great bargain, especially since I ordered it through my local store and was thus able to apply a 20% in-store discount coupon.

Seagate has a bad repution for unreliable hard drives during the 80-90s. It supposedly made improvements over the years.

I gave them another chance this time around.

Unfortunately, 2 HDDs I owned had to be returned because it was defective. Sadly, Seagate sent Refurbished HDDs instead of newer ones!

I'll stay away until Seagate corrects its quality control issues on their hard drives!

    Regarding the other review...
It does NOT take 24 hours to format a hard drive!

It may take that long if you do MORE than simply "format" a hard drive like performing a sector scan or surface scan In Addition to formatting the hard drive.

A "simple format" takes a few minutes at most!

The biggest hurdle was realizing the CD could not be read by my Windows XP system. At first I thought my CD drive was failing. But then I found I could read it on a Vista computer but needed this new hard drive for the XP system.

Cheaper than the competition for a 2TB HDD. A little noisy, very good for the price..
Easy installation, actually brainless. Tons of storage space for little $$.
Ask me in a year. If the HDD doesn't fail I will be a happy camper.

              What dose it mean:
one terabyte per a disc technology.
I plan on using it for my c; drive
              will I have 2 TB drive or will I have c & d drive.
Asked on 7/12/2012 by George from Maryland

              1 answer

              • A:

"One terabyte per a disc technology" simply refers to how the drive stores its data internally, and does not affect how the drive can be used by the end-user.

You can format this drive as a single C: drive that contains 2 TB of data if you wish.

              • A:

It is not recommended to use this hard drive as a DVR. A reviewer on Amazon said that it was too noisy. Also, the manufacture does not list it as one of the uses.

              1 answer

              • A:

It can be used with the Mac OS. You will need the Mac OS install CD/DVD if you are installing the hard drive as a bootable drive. If it is being installed on as a basic storage unit, the installation can be perform via the Mac OS itself. Detailed instructions are in the link below:
