I use this pencil sharpener with the my private students (ages 5-11). It is the perfect alternative to the big, bulky, or noisy pencil sharpeners and to the small, flimsy, messy ones. It gives a sharp point with very little effort and keeps all of the shavings inside its receptacle until I empty it. I pack it in my bag when I travel between students' homes so I always have a pencil sharpener on hand. I recommend it for parents of small school-aged children. You can buy one for each child. It should be added to the school supplies lists!

Good quality but leaves a hunk at the point. The blade does not adjust to correct the cut. I like the inexpensive Staples sharpener because it has a longer taper and a sharper point. I need this product when mobil.


I have used Staedtler products for years but can't use this one. The store was out of the "Staples" brand so I paid much more for this one because I trusted the name. It is useless to me and makes me doubt their current quality.

    This sharpener is well constructed and durable. It evenly sharpens thick and thin sized pencils every time. It is light and compact and can conveniently be packed to go. The lid stays put and does not easily come apart to make accidental messes.

          It is great to have this sharpener that has both the large and small sizes in one. It appears to be pretty sturdy, it works well, although perhaps a little lopsided (not sure if it is the pencil or the sharpener that causes this). It is easy to use, easy to empty, sturdy overall, and works well for what it is supposed to do - sharpen. I have used it for regular pencils, colored pencils and crayons. Overall, it was difficult to find just a plain pencil sharpener so I would recommend if you need one!

              Neither. It is a small hand held sharpener. Because the two blades are quality blades you do not have to exert much pressure to sharpen a pencil. The blades are replaceable but to this date I have not had the need to replace the original blades.
