With the color coding it is easy to return to the proper measuring side that you are using every time. You may measure in either direction as the numbers go from left to right (larger numbering marks)and right to left(smaller numbering marks)on each surface.

There are certainly more expensive scales on the market and of better construction, but, for daily use and accuracy of measurement, this scale is a good buy. The price ain't too bad, either. :-)
