This is an excellent dispenser, with one small caveat: use carefully, as the cutting blade is exposed and does not retract. The blade does have a safety cap that flips over it, of course, but one must remember to replace it. In the future, I would probably pay a little extra for the convenience of a self-retracting blade.

I found this tape dispenser more difficult to use than the one that comes free with a roll of packing tape. It requires great hand and wrist strength. It is heavy and has a bulky handle. A man with large strong hands probably wouldn't have difficulty. Also tape sticks to everything it touches when you set the dispenser down. It should have some sort of shield like the cutting edge has a shield.

There are a number of times I need to ship things to co-workers or friends. I want a reliable tape machine that will keep the tape from doubling back and jamming. This is not a spectacular, whiz-bang item, but it does the job at a better price than, say, 3M. Recommended.

We use this product in our office almost daily. It is one of the best we have ever had. It helps us to secure packages with ease. Our last tape dispenser (different brand) would frequently get the tape stuck while in use. This dispenser never seems to have that problem. It is a much better dispenser. I would absolutely recommend this dispenser to anyone. In fact I recomended this dispenser to my girlfriend who is moving to Colorado just the other day. She wanted to borrow mine but I can't loan it out. So I told her where to buy one.

My boss made me return the tape dispenser because the metal bracket that controls the tape is too narrow. He wanted a long metal bracket with a lever on it to release the tape when it sticks to the tape or goes awry when rolling on the packages he sends which are quite large. He did like the padded grip on the dispenser.

- A:
  There is picture at http://www.staples.com/sbd/img/rebates/pdfs/dispenser.pdf which show you how to load it. You just simply put the roll of tape on the dispenser, adhesive side down and feed the tape over the tape guide but under the roller. Pull it far enough to cut the tape with the serrated blade.

The blade shield came apart, and I went to fix it, but I'm not able to re assemble it all. The blade shield, blade, and plastic guard I'm not able to figure out how to get back together properly.

  Load the roll onto the dispenser adhedive side down. Feed the tape manually over the tape guide but under the roller (black, just below the seratted blade). Pull through far enough to cut the tape with the seratted blade. Should be good to go..
