Over the years I have purchased the TI83 calculator for all three of my children for their h.s. & college math classes. They all took good care of the calculars. [...] The last one I bought for my youngest just died one day. It lasted only 14 months. TI's warranty had expired after a year. I had to buy a new one because my son had several more years of math ahead that required it. I[...]. All the troubleshooting at the back of the manual could not fix it. It killed me to buy a 4th calculator!

I home school my kids. They all struggle a bit with math. Whenever they learn a new concept, it makes it so much easier to teach them to use the calculator to solve the problem. I highly recommend this product. I wish it came with a detailed manual, but I can always find the instructions online.

Q:
I am taking statistics in Grad school. Was told to purchase TI83. Now I see there is a TI84. Should I return to 83 and get the Silver 84? I will have one more stats class before graduating. What do you recommend?
Do either calculate correlation?

  The Recommended Courses/Subjects Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, Biology, Physics, Statistics, AP Statistics. For the TI84 Silver are Algebra 1, Geometry, Chemistry, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Biology, Physics, Statistics, Social Studies, English/Language Arts, AP Statistics. Neither state they calculate correlation in the descriptions.

Q:
Do you know if the TI-84 or TI 83 is better for the SAT? I realize that only a simple calculator is needed for the SAT, but I'm wondering if the TI-84 or TI-83 is more useful for the geometry and graphing questions on the SAT. I know that the TI-84 has "more functions," but some more specific info about the differences that might come into play on the SAT would be much appreciated!

The internal battery for this product: Is there one? Can I purchase it locally?

The regular otc batteries no longer power it.

I have two questions about the TI-83:
1- Are they not powered by solar like the TI-30XIIS?
2-
If they are required for school can we also purchase the TI-84 and do the same things so I do not have to make a new purchase next year or maybe the next? Or will this make it harder for my child to do keep up in class?
