I bought this tripod as a back-up to my very old, but much smaller travel tripod. It is very light, and seems stable enough with a DSLR and telephoto mounted. While it doesn't extend tall enough for a six-foot-plus shooter to use the optical viewfinder, with a tilt-swivel monitor that isn't a problem. There are some advanced features, like a quick-release plate and bubble level. The legs have foam padded segments, which is nice in cold weather or if you carry the tripod on your shoulder. There is also a carry handle. The tilt-pan head doens't seem smooth enough for video, and might be awkward to adjust quickly. (I'm more used to ball heads.)
The leg tips have hard rubber ends, no retractable spikes. The center column has a hook on the end for a weight bag, but will not reverse for low angle shooting.

For the low price, this is a pretty good tripod if you don't expect too much in professional features. There's also a nylon carry bag with an adjustable shoulder strap.

I DID LIKE THE FOAM HANDLES AND THE SNAP-OFF BASE. OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER OFF BUYING THE ONES I SEE AT YARD SALES ALL THE TIME. THE LIQUID FILLED BUBBLE LEVELER WAS BROKEN, BUT I DON'T NEED IT BECAUSE I CAN SEE WHAT I AM PHOTOGRAPHING, AND DON'T NEED A BUBBLE TO LINE THE SHOT UP FOR ME. I LOST THE RECIEPT SO I DIDN'T REALLY FEEL LIKE PUTTING MYSELF THROUGH THE ORDEAL. IT DOES HAVE 3 LEGS SO IT IS A TRIPOD. THE PLASTIC GEARS WILL WEAR OUT IF I EVER MOVE OR BREAK IT DOWN AGAIN

              • Q:

Does this tripod come with a carrying case? Because I bought the exact tripod (VPT-2457) the other day that had a carrying case. But unfotunately it was missing the "Quick Releases Mount". I returned it. They were unable to replace it because it was out of stock. So I've been desperately trying to find where I can get the same one. If your's comes with the carrying case I'll be more than happy to buy it. Thank You!

                  A:

I can't give you a simple yes or no since I don't know the exact weight of the camera or the lens you are using it with.
My camera weighs a pound without the lens, and my 80-300 equiv. lens about the same. If your setup is much heavier I'd be careful, and I wouldn't use a very long, heavy lens unless there is a tripod mount on the lens. Also, be careful to support the camera when making tilt adjustments.
