Q: OK. Last attempt. If the cutting arm holding the blade is 15" long - 3" for the handle and 12" to hold the 12" cutting blade = and even giving the hinge holding the cutting arm to the base 2 more inches to the back of the unit for a total of 17", where are the extra 8" of depth behind the hinge mechanism to the back of the unit? This just can't be 25" deep!? Could you take an actual measurement from the end of the handle to the back of the unit? (You can tell I'm tight on space and want this to fit. Answer this question 2 answers A: Your confusion is understandable. You're starting with bad assumptions, which can't get you to the right place. Stipulated: 12" cutting blade, 15" cutting arm (the length of the base). But look carefully at the picture; you'll see that the handle extends beyond the cutting arm. My guess is ~6". Then, another careful look shows that the hinge area behind the base is ~3" deep. (Compare its depth in the picture to the grid on the base, which is marked in inches.) 15"+6"+3"=24". We're close to 25". The back of the hinge appears rounded, which adds inches that aren't visually obvious. The handle may be a bit longer than 6". I'd trust the 25" measurement. Can't see it fitting into a 17" space unless there's no safety hazard if the base hangs over by an inch and the handle sticks out much further.
