When you are getting ready to shop for the new school year, be sure to add loose leaf classroom paper or filler paper to your school shopping list. Paper is a necessary school supply whether your child is in elementary school, middle school or high school. So obvious that it's easy to overlook, paper is perfect for taking notes in class, working on homework assignments or writing essays. When it comes to purchasing loose leaf paper, there are a few things to keep in mind including:
Paper sizes and paper weight
Loose leaf paper comes in a variety of sizes and weights, and can include punched holes for 2 or 3 ring binders. Make sure to choose the size that fits your needs. Most schools will encourage your student to use a 3 ring binder for keeping notes, but double check your teacher's specific suggestions first!
To be (lined) or not to be (unlined)
Classroom loose leaf paper can be either lined or unlined. Most lined paper is paper that has horizontal lines drawn on it at regular intervals to serve as a guide for handwriting, but you can also find loose leaf graph paper with both vertical and horizontal lines to help plot math problems. You also have the option between wide ruled filler paper for younger students still mastering their handwriting and college ruled filler paper for students in higher grades with a more compact note-taking style. Unlined paper is ideal for more artistic purposes like sketching in art class or drawing diagrams to make comparisons in English class.
Different paper colors
Finally, classroom paper can be either white or colored. White paper is the standard type of paper used for printing and writing on. Colored paper isn't as commonly found on back to school shopping lists, but be used for a variety of purposes, such as adding a pop of color to notes or using different colors to organize different types of information.
