Hi Ike, I viewed your post and would like to apologize for the inconvenience of a dry or empty cartridge. I will provide a few tips on ink usage below. I am glad to hear you mention the instant ink program. The program is a great way to never run out of ink. You can sign up here: https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/cv/instantink. As a precaution, ensure that the cartridge is fully inserted in the holder. There may be residue on the printhead. Carefully remove ink from the copper contacts on the printhead. Print in black ink to prevent running out of color ink sooner. Certain types of prints and paper use more ink, such as images. If you follow these practices, the ink will last longer.
