Perhaps you were printing denser printouts with this cartridge. Ink usage determines how long it lasts. High-density prints (such as images and graphs) will use more ink especially if the paper is highly absorbent and the surrounding air is dry. Here are some things that might help lower your ink usage: - Set the printer to draft mode whenever possible - Shut the printer down between uses - Always use the power button on the printer itself to turn it off. That gives it time to ‘park’ so that the cartridges are protected from excessive drying You might also consider subscribing to Instant Ink then you only pay by the page and not for the cartridges themselves. Hi Walter I'm sorry that you had the cartridge stop working for you. Usually when you get that message it means that something is wrong with the cartridge but it could be because the electrical contacts inside the printer are not making good contact with the cartridge. Perhaps the contacts on the cartridge got smudged or are damaged so that it is not recognized by your printer. You can carefully polish the copper contacts on the cartridge (and the matching ones inside the printer) with some kind of lint-free material to get off fingerprints or dust. Hi Stephen I'm sorry that you didn't get a cartridge that you preferred. However most people find that the XL cartridge will last much longer and be a better value in the long run. There are shortages of the cartridges in some areas. This is due to the inability to get some materials needed to make them and an increase in online orders during the lockdowns.
