Hi Ryan I regret that you are having this happening to you. Not sure what the Instant Ink issue is. You can go to instantink.com for help with that. Most people do find that the XL cartridges are a better value so that is probably a good idea. Using draft mode when you can and shutting down the printer when not in use helps too. Just be aware that you need to always use the power button on the printer to shut it down. Not doing so can cause the cartridges to dry out. Mary HP Care hp.com/support
