Hi there, I am sorry to find that you had this problem. It is not necessarily the wrong cartridge though. Perhaps the contacts on the cartridge got smudged or are damaged so that it is not recognized by your printer. You can carefully polish the copper contacts on the cartridge (and the matching ones inside the printer) with some kind of lint-free material to get off fingerprints or dust. Hi Carla, I am sorry to find that you had this problem. Most people do find the XL to be a better value and the few drops that are used for the test pages shouldn't make that much of a difference. You are able to use just the black cartridge in a pinch too. Just remove the tricolor and although you'll get an error message, you can ignore that and continue to print. Hope these tips make you a happier customer! I have one more that you might consider. Instant Ink lets you pay by the page. You don't buy the cartridges themselves (they are delivered automatically).
