Counterfeit or defective error on printer

Hello Carol If the cartridge is printed for two weeks it is genuine. You can verify this information at www.hp.com/anticounterfeit/. If there is any way to clean the cartridge I would recommend it. Sometimes a dry cartridge is a cause. Be mindful of using thick paper color cartridges and photos. I would also research or contact support about the error messages. Was the cartridge the wrong size or fit for the printer? Or was the issue that the cartridge wouldn't print once inserted? Those problems have very different solutions.
