The xl does last longer than the regular ink cartridge. For a few $ more it is worth it. Stock up it's no fun to run out.

Hi David In this comment I presume you are referring to the price. If the price is higher it could be from a multitude of factors from time of year to supply chain issues. There are many ways to save ink. - Start by checking if there are thinner paper types on the market. Thinner paper uses less ink. - Turn off color printing if you can.
