Hi Lisa,
I am sorry that the cartridge does not seem to be working properly. I can understand how disappointing that must have been.
It is possible that the printhead in the printer needs to be cleaned. That is fairly simple to do. There is an option in the printer's menu that starts the cleaning process.
If that doesn't seem to help, the cartridge could be defective. Our return and exchange process is covered, step-by-step, at:

don't last very long and way too expensive. As soon as the expiration date comes it says you are out of ink and my printer won't let me just use the black ink.
