I have had a Brother MFC-J430W for several years. I have NO complaints and I will believe this is a functional device.

too costly
It's WAY too expensive!! I have my printer set on "normal" (the lowest) for both the computer and copy quality abut I am constantly buying ink. I have a "brother" printer and I can't afford to buy another printer...but it would probably be just the same.

Brother LC75BKS High Yield ink cartridge
Staples charges 65% more for this cartridge than the standard black cartridge ($29.49 vs $17.79). My records show that, for me, the High Yield lasted twice as long (22 vs 11 months) and gave 81% more copies (295 vs 163) in my Brother MFC-J430W printer, so it's a better deal even if your not a heavy user.

While I know this will not see the light of day for other customers but here goes. My purchase was one of urgency as I ran out of ink earlier in the day. I ordered some on line (from a different source) at $20 for 3 cartridges. Your price of $33 each was high but I had no choice. Brother black cartridge XL
Went on the Staples web site, for the first time and ordered a Brother cartridge. Needed it the same day and was able to pick it up quickly. It was waiting for me at their check out register. This was such an easy purchase!! Good to know Staples was there to help!

Brother LC75BKS Black High Yield Ink Cartridge
Unfortunately, it must be defective, because it messed up my printer. I have always used these same cartridges with no problem, but not this time. I am now unable to use my printer at all and am thinking of returning the cartridge for a refund, but did not save my receipt, because I never expected to have this issue with it.

Missing something?
For decades I have bought brothers printers. Always once the outer plastic shrink wrapped package is removed I have to twist off the pop off plastic piece to allow printer to access the ink. In this case there was no hard plastic piece to twist off. Concerned my ink cartridge may not be as fresh or long lasting without the plastic plug.
