Comments about APC 4-Outlet 1020 Joule Surge Protector with LCD Timer:

Performs as advertised, however it didn't work when I first plugged it in; I first thought it was broken. Then I just took a guess and used a pin to press the RESET button, then it worked without issue. The LCD isn't backlit so if you install it in a dark place you'll need a flashlight to see the screen. I don't like how OVERRIDE button works: basically it just flip-flops the power either on or off based upon the current schedule, so if you know it's about to cut power, you can't use the OVERRIDE button to prevent it from doing so; only after it has cut power according to your schedule can you use OVERRIDE to turn everything back on. Also programming the schedule is confusing - does "schedule on" mean the power is on or off? It takes me some second guessing before I get that one right.

Overall though I love having a device that saves me money on "Vampire Loads", protects from surges and tests my home wiring. Once you get through the install hassles it's a 'set it and forget it' device.

I am considering purchasing this item for my son's TV. If the timer is set to be "off" after 11pm, if he were to turn the TV on during this time frame, would it go on if it was set to be off. He does this in his sleep so the TV ends up being on all night.

              • A:

Once the timer turns the outlets "off", nothing plugged in to the timer can be turned on until the selected "on" time.

Pressing any of the product's button's should turn the display back on. If not the product is defective and you return it for an exchange.

I plug in the product, but only see "protection working LED" on, not "Timer enabled", and there 's nothing displayed on the LED screen. Is there anything I need to config to make the timer enabled? I tried to hold some buttons for few seconds, but without luck.

The timer just needs to be set so that the timer enabled led will light up.

The plastic piece and screw do not stick out enough that this protector cannot be plugged into the wall.

                A:

LCD Timer - Saves power by automatically turning equipment ON and OFF based on six preset time programs. Select the exact time and day of the week that your equipment receives power from the "Controlled by Timer" outlets and prevent unnecessary electricity waste. If you choose to keep power on you select the controlled timer to set up for this to be turned ON.

It would depend on the product that is plugged into this item. 1 joule equals 1 watt

Actually 1 joule is 1 watt-second. You can't directly compare joules and watts.
