This multi funtion machine is great but as soon as ANY color cartridge runs out, you can not print even black & white. The ink costs [$] for each color and the black ink is even more. A big BOO to brother for not having a more cost effective ink system.It takes away from a very reliable and easy to use product.

The ink cartridge quality is okay; however, the printer uses ink in the cartridge for cleaning even when not printing in color. Also, the printer reports empty cartridge even when there is ink in cartridge.

The Brother MFC-5460CN is an excellent all in one unit, but is very expensive to operate regarding ink. I weighed a yellow cartridge before and after use and got a differance of only 1/8th.ozs! This is daylight robbery.
