Ink is ink however its the printer

went to purchase ink for our four year old MFC-465N at Staples and discovered we could upgrade your four year printer to a new MFC-J825DW for less than the cost of one color cartridge. the LC51 tri-pack and one black ink cartridge was going to be around seventy dollars, while the new MFC-J825DW was less than one hundred dollars and ink cartridges are included. we have a student in the family that uses the printer often and myself as a computer tech we found that the cost of replacing the ink is less and the efficiency of the printer is greater than the previous brother. we all know that profits on printers are made from the supplies used by the printer, we use the brother as our primary printer because of the replacement cost and longevity of the ink over the standby printer we have, a hp photosmart.

I own the MFC-J435 copier and purchased to be able to change each color separately, but when the yellow became low, I was forced to change ALL of my cartridges, even my black which was more than half full. This meant I spent over $60.00 for a yellow refill! The computer seems to have a sensor that resets all the cartridges when 1 is removed and will NOT print until they are replaced with new cartridges. I had to throw away perfectly good ink and then tried to change my setting to print in Black Only, but this setting is not available on my printer, only Gray Scale which still uses some color ink while printing, but this does seems to allow me to use the entire black cartridges before replacing and does not require me to replace all 3 color cartridges as well. But know when I do replace any of the color cartridges, every cartridge MUST be replaced on this model anyhow. I would never recommend anyone to purchase any Brother Printer due to this extra cost of ownership.

I love my wireless printer. Wish I had bought an HP, but for the money this does the job. The cartridges are more expensive than HP. Overall, not bad because the printer was so cheap on Black Friday!

I have to copy the books, syllabus' for classes, assignments, articles to study to answer questions for the classes that I am in. So I use about a ream of paper for each class and so with me and with my husband copying, we use up the ink in no time and so when we are through with an ink cartridge we recycle them and that makes more savings for us because we do the recycling with Staples too, so when it is all said and done sometimes the ink or the paper we use would be free because we have been able to receive the rewards. Just like now I have earned an extra 5 bonus points for using more than 400 characters to make a comment. I love the items we buy at Staples and love the rewards for shopping with them.

The machine tends to clean itself too much wasting ink. Not really happy with pictures just okay. The ink low warning starts way to early and is a pain till it really needs to be replaced.
