Cannon product are a great value. I have owned a Canon Printer for about 8 years. The cartridges are inexpensive and easily replaced. Cartridges are singled color and therefore make replacing one or more of them easy on the pocket book.

If quality and presentation is important to you, Cannon products provide professional results and although above mid-range pricing, Cannon delivers consistent high quality. I've skimped with other suppliers and through out or gave away their products! Cannon values it's customers. For example, I printed a solid black background which permanently mucked up my print head. I emailed Cannon Customer Help and they shipped a new replacement free! I am still using it even after four years. I will upgrade within the Cannon product line as they earned me as a loyal customer.

it works fine, price is reasonable. It's easy to replace and color is okay for everyday docs. Not in love with the picture quality, but I have a photo printer for that. I have a good knowledge of printers and for a low price printer that my children use to print black and white docs for school you can't get a better value for your money.

  These cartridges are not designed to be refilled.

  Yes, they can be refilled. These cartridges come with a chip that tells the printer the cartridge is a genuine Canon, so the printer accepts it and reads the ink levels. This chip must be reset in order for you use the printer without ruining your warranty. We at InkjetReset.com a green company now have resetters in stock that will reset this chip to its original specifications, so when you refill the cart, your printer will accept it, and your printer monitor will keep you aware of ink levels. The cost for a resetter at this writing is $32 including a 6 month replacement warranty.
  To refill, avoid drilling a hole, Peel back the label (top front of cartridge) and you’ll see the original fill hole. Using fingernails or pin, pull that plug & refill. Use silicone (window sealant) to seal the hole. Silicone is easily removed when you refill again.

  No. The ink cartridges apparently have a chip in them that recognizes when they have been emptied. I actually tried to, just to see what would happen. (The warranty had run out, so I didn't care.) I got a message on my computer stating that the cartridge ink was not correct and that my warranty would be voided if I proceeded and clicked "OK". I'm told, the ink cartridge must be reset before ink can be put in it.

  CLI ink by canon is their Chromalife ink which is a photo ink. It is designed to resist color fading. PGI ink is Pigment based and primarily for text it is smudge resistant and resists smearing caused by highlighters.
