The cost of these black ink cartridges isn't outrageous, but it also isn't cheap, so it falls somewhere in the middle. The good thing though is that you can often get them on sale...Read complete review

The cost of these black ink cartridges isn't outrageous, but it also isn't cheap, so it falls somewhere in the middle. The good thing though is that you can often get them on sale or you can at least combine a cartridge recycling trip with the new cartridge purchase to offset some of the cost. I do find that I get a little more use out of the cartridge than what the computer indicates; I really run them until I get no ink coming out. That takes substantially longer than you would think! Having several around prevents me though from running one completely dry late at night and then not being able to print anything until stores open in the morning.

Most Helpful Negative Review

A necessity for the printer that I own!

Like most, if not all, ink cartridges, the cartridge ink capacity is too small. The printer manufacturers should put a system of tanks in the printer that would be filled from outside the printer. I would rather pay what the printer is worth than have to make up the profit margin for the manufacturer in exorbitant ink costs as well as the environmental issues of disposable tanks.

Why do I have to buy a black 221 every time I buy cartridges then have to buy 220 separately? I end up with leftover black 221's and then have to buy 220's anyway.

This is the main ink product we use for all our business printing needs. It works great and lasts long. It is a very user friendly product; easy to install, easy to remove, easy to find replacement cartridges.... all around easy! I would most defiantly recommend any printer that supports this ink cartridge. The price is great too. We all love good products at a cheap price. this product allows for both by giving you a great product with two spares driving down the price per cartridge. TWO THUMBS WAY UP!

  Yes. Each cartridge is packaged individually, that is, each is sealed in plastic outer wrap with the standard ink cap; just the same as single cartridge units. The 3-pack box itself is superfluous.

  According to PC World, it has a yield of 324 pages for $15, 4.6 cents per page. This is superior to the Epson high capacity 97 cartridge, which on this site claims 430 pages for $35, or 8.1 cents per page. However, it falls far short of the HP OfficeJet Pro, for which PC World states a yield of 2200 pages for $36, or 1.6 cents per page.
  
  I am quite frustrated with the OUTRAGEOUS cost of ink for low end Canon and Epson printers that I am seriously thinking of upgrading the HP officeJet pro and throwing all of these cheap printers away (though i'll give up wireless and duplex scanning).
  
  Note that the low end HP printers also have high Ink cost. You really need the officeJet pro.
