My third grade son has always had trouble holding a pencil and writing neatly. Recently, his teacher gave him one Ticonderoga First Pencil and it helps his writing. He seems to have more control with this fatter pencil. The class list of supplies has specifically requested this brand of pencils and the kids like them better. They write easily and more importantly, for them, the erasers work well, without smudging everything.

I'm very disappointed with my last purchase of Ticonderoga Pencils!! The lead is not centered and so no matter how much you sharpen them they don't write well because a sliver of wood is blocking the lead. Now I find out that my Ticondergora's are no longer Made In The USA.
This was a problem we never had with Ticonderoga Pencils made in the United States. It was my one and only reason for purchasing them – the fact that the lead was always center and that every single pencil sharpened straight and centered.

These are the only pencils I use in my first grade classroom. The tips almost never break, and they don't need to be sharpened very often. Although I could buy regular pencils for much less money, these save so much time and frustration they are well worth it! The only problem is that some of the metal eraser barrels are not securely attached and they come off quickly, which is frustrating (but I usually glue them on before giving them out with super glue).

Other than the rectangular carpenters pencil, these pencils are the only ones that work well on construction sites. They sharpen easy, unlike traditional carpenter pencils. And the lead doesn't break like 'store brand' type pencils. Outstanding value and MOST of all works great.
