I have used Elmer's Rubber Cement for over 40 years for professional and personal use. My two main uses are (1) for attaching paper to other surfaces -- especially as a dry-mount -- to give a clean professional look, and (2) for attaching a business card to letters and such -- using a couple of small "dabs" (put some glue in a small "squirt-tip" bottle to make it really easy!). The card will not get lost and not noticed (because it fell somewhere in the envelope), and it can easily be removed by the customer. The little bit of glue on the back of it can easily be rubbed off by the customer.

I would like to see easy-to-use rubber cement thinner available in relatively small "consumer" amounts so that the once-in-a-while user will not end up with a bottle having a lot of dried-up cement.

I would also like to have the stuff available in small capped-tip plastic squirt bottles so small dabs can be easily applied without your fingers getting rubber cement on them.

I love rubber cement! It is clean and economical. As with any product, it must be used for appropriate applications.

I have a lot of projects to make for school and I thought using the rubber cement would be a lot more effective than just regular glue, but found it to be just as much of a heartache as regular white glue. There are very few things that this rubber cement will hold up on. I found that if I need to attach small items like beads, then this glue will work, but if I have to bond things like poster board or foam, this just does not work all that well. It can also start to make a mess, especially if begins to build up on the brush. I would use hot glue and put up with the extra mess if it means that my projects can get finished.

Comments about Borden Elmer's Rubber Cement:

The longevity of the adhesion depends on whether you apply it on BOTH surfaces to be glued together or only one. If you apply it to both surfaces and let it dry a few minutes and THEN stick them together you will get the best results ( a little trick I learned in an applied arts class).

Rubber Cement is a bit more permanent. There are many names for the product, but the material is like a glue dot. Some places sell glue lines for this exact reason. Item 667652 would work if you want a glue dot. If you need additional assistance, please feel free to call us at 1-800-333-3330.

                A:

Possibly. Some of the flat-style magnets are thicker and heavier than others. How big is the one you are using?

My suggestion is to try/test it out by first by simulating the conditions of your flyer's distribution. If it is by mail and in an envelope, there should be problem. If the flyer is being stuck, unprotected, to a mailbox, you may have a problem. Try to simulate rough handling if you can.

There are other types of rubber cement-like products available that may be more appropriate (stronger/tougher), but I don't know what they are. I have seen magnets like you are mentioning, attached to the outside cover of phone books that are mass-distributed. Maybe you can call the company and find out what they use if Elmer's rubber cement doesn't seem to work well-enough for you.

Yes, this glue is recommended for adhering photos and detailed cut and paste projects. Excess glue rubs off cleanly, and shows no wrinkles as it dries.

Probably not because of the weight of the vinyl wall decoration but no risk in trying. The rubber cement will rub off easily of the wall and the decoration if the vinyl wall decoration does not adhere
