I've never liked printer ink as it is the most expensive liquid substance in the world right now. However I've never had a good experience with refilled ink cartridges so I'd always recommend the HP branded ones and the XL definitely lasts much longer and saves money - although i am disappointed HP recently decreased the amount of ink in them by about 20% (lowering the price too but the point of the XL is not having to replace the cartridge - if you want to spend less upfront but the non-XL version!). This is the only reason I can't give 5-Stars.

We have been HP users for many years. Our new wireless "Touch Smart Web" uses #564 skinny cartridges. We were VERY unhappy to find the cartridges are partially filled with ink. And if we want fully filled cart. we must buy the same size cartridge with an XL on it. When you buy a cartridge of ink it should be a FULL one! Partially filled is plain old CHEATING. Sheila M. Item
Comments about HP 564XL Black Ink Cartridge (CN684WN), High Yield:
These 564 cartridges would be considered inexpensive in almost all circles; however they are small and therefore do not contain much ink and that's the rub. They lose their cost-effectiveness because of that. I like the product but do not like having to continually purchase more of them. I am saddened that what could be a terrific product is marginal at best, even with the XLs. I choose to print my photos at a local kiosk because I cannot bear to throw away a partially printed photo (and the ink:(
Comments about HP 564XL Black Ink Cartridge (CN684WN), High Yield:
I bought my printer to print my art and volunteer organization projects. I just bought another cartridge of black. HP 564XL black is said to print 550. If I get even 100 I would be surprised. I don't print much anymore trying to conserve on ink and dollars because it uses too much ink even though I adjusted my settings to use the lowest amount. Now, I only print special items . Very annoying for an artist. The cost went up from [$] to [$] recently. Far to much for what I actually am able to print.I have been ordering at HP online because of price and convience since we live 15 miles from town.(Gas) The last cartridge I had to drive to town to buy from Staples because 564XL was "Out of Stock!!!!" What gives with that!!! What good is my $300 printer when the ink doesn't print as much as they say. Even that is half of what my old HP use to print. I have been a long time HP customer but am about at the end of my rope and fed up with HP. I think my next printer will not be an HP.

Q:
C6380 Where is the black 564 that fits this printer???? The original cartridge is 1" thick and the technicians keep selling me 1/2" version! It is not the photo black. It is the pentagon .
HP denotes a pentagon symbol on the Black 564 cartridge, our item number 743478. The photo black, item number 743480, denotes a bowtie symbol on the package. The item number 917829 will fit your printer, it yields 550 pages, as opposed to 250 pages for the HP 564. Please call in to customer support at (800) 333-3330 for assistance placing your order.

Q:
I am trying to buy black cartridges for the HP Photosmart Premium printer. This printer has 4 small cartridges (cyan, magenta, yellow and black), but it also has a large (twice as wide as the small cartridges)black cartridge.
I am not able to distinguish between the cartridges you offer, which one I need to order for the large black cartridge. The numbers don't seem to help.
The small ones are for the photos. The large one is just for everyday use.

Jacquie,
You have two black cartridges, the small one states "photo black" and goes on the extreme left, the large one on the extreme right, states "black" or "black XL". Most Staples carry the Black XL, however if you cannot find a black XL a small cartridge marked "black" will work, it just won't last as long. You can order it at this site. I usually order several at a time. I hope this helped.

Jacquie- The black cartridge with the hexagon is the actual black cartridge, the one on the left with the weird shape is the photo cartridge...you need both to run this printer.

Q:
I'm in the process of reordering HP564Xl and noticed that the number of pages has changed from 800 to 550. What happened? Why did the number of copies change so drastically?
It's a thinner cartridge so less ink. I picked one up at store last week since was going to take 3+ days to get XL (750-800 pgs) online. It cost a little less but thinner and says "2X" ink on pkg whereas other had "3X" ink on pkg.

A:
HP has prorated the size from 3x to 2x of the non-XL size and priced it accordingly in the store. The price online should be changed similarly. Holding last 6 or 7 of the 3x's here.
