My seven-year-old Gateway laptop, though a fine machine, tends to overheat in regular use, often to the point of sudden shutdown to protect itself from thermal damage. In order to keep my laptop running safely, I clearly needed to solve this overheating problem -- and found an effective solution in Targus's single-fan cooling mat, one whose relatively small footprint belies its efficacy at keeping my laptop running for extended periods while remaining safely cool. To add to my delight with the product, it was on sale the day I bought it, making it a great value as well as an effective performer.

I was looking for a mid range chill mat that would assist in keeping the computer cool. This does not do the job. The only way that it becomes efficient is when the left side of the laptop hangs off the edge of the mat by 3 inches, exposing the area where the processor is located to open air...which defeats the purpose of a cooling mat.

      I paid about 20 bucks. All the others were 40 and up. It has a single fan and no speed control and the size is small. Check the dimensions of the chiller against the laptop (feet). The feet of my laptop JUST fit. If you think that it is adequate for your needs, buy it and put the extra 20 toward something else.
