The Targus Lap Chill Mat provides a comfortable and ergonomic work surface to keep you and your laptop cool. The Chill Mat rests on your lap and disperses heat, using dual fans to provide ventilation which can be obstructed if the laptop is used on a pillow or comforter. Simply plug the USB connector into the laptop to activate cooling. The ergonomic tilt makes typing easy while the soft neoprene material provides cushioned comfort on your lap. Open side make it easy to move with the laptop when I get up. Fabric on bottom keep it from slipping and is comfortable. It is wider than many mats and is perfect for my widescreen laptop.

Well built product but check your measurements before you buy it to see if your wide screen laptop will fit.
This is supposed to fit a 17" laptop but the adjustable rubber "grips" that are supposed to keep the laptop from slipping back towards you don't adjust far enough outward to match the feet of my 15.6" widescreen Dell Studio. A laptop is designed to be supported by the laptop feet.
This is an issue because the Chill Mat "grips" are holding up the laptop from the Chill Mat but not where they are supposed to so you have to be careful they are not pushing up in a pressure sensitive spot on the underside of the laptop. The adjustable "grips" come loose and are easy to lose.
If I remove the "grips", the 15.6" widescreen laptop would be sitting directly on the surface of the Chill Mat which defeats the whole purpose. A 17" widescreen probably wouldn't work.
Check the distance between the feet on the bottom of your laptop. If they are over 10.5" widthwise, your laptop is too wide to work properly with this chill Mat.

    I use my chill map on my lap while checking email and facebook and on my desktop while working on assignments. My computer doesnt slide around on the chill mat thanks to the little rubber strips on the top of the chill mat.

    THe only problem is the neoprene slides pretty easily on the desktop, so becareful.

      As a college student, I use my laptop for most of the day. Currently I own a 15.4inch HP which starts to heat up after an hour of use (Yes, I have tried to clean out the dust in my internal laptop fan several times).

      What attracted me to this product was 1. The ratings 2. elevated keyboard. I love the fact that you can place on lap and not only for desk use.

      But that's the trade off. Because you can use it elsewhere other than desk it, that means the bottom no longer allows air flow, restricting the air flow coming only from the side. This laptop cooler kept the back where my battery is located cooler than usual, but aside from that my laptop was still quite hot.

      I expected more from the laptop cooler because of its ratings, but I guess everyone has their own preferences and this laptop cooler was not enough power to cool my laptop.

          Only real dislike is that the USB cord can't be disconnected from the mat itself. I'm slightly worried the cord might accidentally be ripped out of the mat since it is "hardwired" in.
          However, I LOVE how quiet this is. Others have been surprised it is even on since you can't hear it.
