i have had this calculator now since January '07. i have to admit i am thoroughly satisfied with the service it has provided me. it has been real helpful in my statistics course, although i had to download the application from ti's website. the application is wonderful and easy to use. i use it for my statistics and calculus courses. i use it most in calculus. however, you have to be aware that the calculator is just a calculator and won't solve simple problems the way they are supposed to be solved. although it will find the derivative of a trig function, it does NOT use the chain rule and therefore will give you a wrong answer. i rely on the calculator ONLY to check simple solutions. maybe i had missed something and it will catch it. overall, i am satisfied with the calculator. i like it, and i DISLIKE the ti-83(i've had for years now) and ti-84, although i bought the ti-84 because it was a "requirement" for my stats course. had i known that the ti-89 is easier to use and better for me, i wouldn't have spent [$] on the ti-84 that's just sitting on my desk accumulating dust. i would recommend the ti-89 to anyone because of its ease of use and practical applications.

I bought this after my TI-84+ self destructed the night before am engineering exam. The interface is not intuitive, but there is a lot going on in the background. Honestly, I knew what I needed for my exam, and this calculator wasn't confidence inspiring. It took a bit of relearning to find matrices...
With the stock manual you can muddle through a lot of basic stuff, but the big powerful functions are tricky to find.
The display sucks, period. Tiny pixelated symbols that nearly require a magnifying glass? That's so 1990 (I had one of the first TI-81's, the screen quality hasn't improved by much). I guess I just expect more since I own an iPod Touch...? If I could do it over, I would get a TI-84 again...

All 4 of my children needed this model for their classes starting in high school and my older 2 who are in college needed this model into college. This is a fantastic model. My children in college are majoring in Engineering and BioChemistry. They are a little pricey, but well worth it in the long term. My sons have also downloaded games, of course.
Comments about Texas Instruments® TI-89 Titanium Graphing Calculator:
This calculator is the perfect tool for math, including classes. It's almost a little too perfect, it seems, as it's also banned from use in ACT testing.
Make sure you have a backup for such a case if you intend to take the ACT.

This is a great product as long as you know someone that can show you how to use it. The book, at times, is difficult to understand. I took mine to the college that I am attending and the tutor showed me how to use it and now I love it.
