This is a 'great' item for the traveler, especially those of us on Touring Motorcycles. It is a quick use item when rider is 'alone', but wants to be in the picture for the memories. Can be kept attached to the camera OR used with the 'quick-release' top. Lightweight, compact, sturdy and strong. Daughter takes it for her photo-op's, will definately get a 2nd one.

i was looking for one of these everywhere and was really excited to finally own one. When I was testing out the "quick release" feature, the button spring popped off and it took me forever to put it back together. The little tab that is the lock for the mount is very small which allows you camera to fall off the "secure" mount... I do like how the little legs can move in any direction... and holds a stable shot. I use this mount with training videos. I would recommend this to a friend if they are going to modify it to make it secure. If left as opened from the package.. no I do not recommend.

Comments about Vivitar VT-SP6 Spider Tripod:

I LOVE my spider tripod by Vivitar. I need to videotape my dog and me as we enjoy the sport of Nose Work. I train alone except for attending classes so have no one except my new Vivitar spider tripod to assist me with videotaping. I'm using two Flip video cameras and this tripod works like a charm. Training is not on flat ground so this equipment enables me to videotape my dog and me as we search along block walls, in uneven fields, up and down ladders, and in other unusual places.

Comments about Vivitar VT-SP6 Spider Tripod:

I bought this to replace a similar one that I had before. I liked the idea of the detachable camera mount and that it was longer than the one I previously owned. I used it with a very lightweight compact digital video camera.

It does not stay in the shape you put it in. The rubber "grips" do not grip onto anything. It is not easily manipulated around even simple shapes like a pole. The connector to the camera works with a tab that is supposed to lock it to the tripod, but that breaks very easily. Even with it working as designed, the camera would turn itself out of the tripod with the slightest manipulation.

I'm going to search online for a larger version of the one I had before. This was the only model that staples offers in store period so I had no other option. I was very disappointed.

I wish there were a way to make the legs lock straight. Other than that, this is plenty sturdy and useful.

what is the maximum weight it can hold? is it ok to use w/a dslr??

        • A:

The maximum weight limit is not available, however, it is NOT intended to be used with a DSLR. This is for small, point and click digital cameras.
