Descaling Solution
Trending now
Over time, coffee machines subjected to constant use require descaling to remain fully operational. Keep your coffee maker working and your employees productive with a coffee descaler from Staples.
How Does Descaling Solution Work?
A descaling solution is a liquid chemical substance designed to remove limescale from the heating elements of coffee makers, machines and brewers. Limescale is the white, chalky mineral residue that accumulates on metal surfaces and is particularly visible on stainless steel. Mineral scale buildup can impact a machine's boiler, preventing water from reaching its optimal brewing temperature. Descaler cleans the mineral scale from the coffee pot’s heating element and plumbing, restoring the proper operation of the machine.
Descaling Solution Benefits
At insufficient temperatures, it is impossible to extract the full flavor of coffee beans. Mineral scale buildup can also clog water flow, and while it shouldn’t hurt you, it can clog the machine and cause it to stop working if it is not removed periodically. When ridding a coffee machine of limescale buildup, using a commercial descaler is far more effective than vinegar, which takes longer to work and leaves behind an unpleasant odor and aftertaste.
What Products Does Descaling Solution Work On?
Limescale is a common buildup for any coffee machine or coffee pot, and it is recommended to use a descaling solution to clear off these minerals from the product once every three to six months. These are the types of products a coffee descaler can be used on:
Metal Coffee Makers
Metal coffee makers require a descaling solution once limescale begins to build up. Unlike most machines, coffee makers will not notify the user when descaling is needed, so be on the lookout for the chalky white residue to know when to begin this process. The descaling process is similar to the brewing process. Make sure the coffee maker is as clean as possible afterwards. Be sure to carefully read the directions of the descaler solution you purchased.
Coffee Machines
Coffee machines, especially newer models and brands, often have a limescale detection system built into it. Be on the lookout for this light to go off when the coffee machine is in need of a descaler. Similar to the metal coffee maker, the descaling solution process will be almost the same as the brewing process. Follow the directions and your machine will be back to perfect condition in no time.
Keurig Coffee Machines
Keurig coffee makers are a specially made type of coffee machine so be sure the descaling solution you’ve purchased is compatible with your model. Follow the directions of the coffee descaler carefully and your Keurig will be as good as new!
