The issue that you describe (afterflow) can result from a number of conditions (individually or in combination), including attempting to apply the product through a very narrow tip opening, application out of temperature range, gunning the product too rapidly, the use of a non-drip free caulking gun, or a small amount of air trapped under the plunger in the end of the cartridge/within the filled product. While this issue has no adverse impact on the applied products performance, it can be frustrating and messy. Thank you for posting your feedback. DAP ALEX FAST DRY is designed for use as a fast-drying general-purpose caulk, where low to moderate joint movement is expected. Based on the photograph that you provided, it would appear the there is an insufficient amount of sealant in the joint. As a general rule, application of sealants at less than 1/8" (bead) is not recommended, as the product's ability to properly flex will be limited. For application where higher joint movement is expected, we would recommend the use of softer/more flexible sealants such as DAP DYNAFLEX 230 or DAP EXTREME STRETCH. Because you did not provide any background regarding your project (such as: application conditions, surface preparation, application technique), it is difficult to provide a more detailed response in this format. Thank you for posting your feedback, we're sorry to hear about your experience with ALEX FAST DRY. as indicated on the product package label and supporting product literature: "Allow 20 minutes for skin to form on caulk prior to painting with brush or roller. Can be spray painted immediately with latex paint. Allow additional dry time in high humidity or cool temperatures. Full Dry Through: 24 hours ". Based on your commentary regarding cracking (withing a year of application), it would appear that the applications that you are using the DAP ALEX FAST DRY sealant on may require higher performance products such as DAP DYNAFLEX 230 or DYNAFLEX ULTRA, which is an elastomeric joint sealant with 3-5 times the amount of flexibility offered by DAP ALEX FAST DRY.
