Necessary
If you read buyer reviews on various sites you will see that HP have fine products but seem to have a horrible reputation for support and warranty. IMHO it is necessary to buy a service & support contract like this one.

A fraud and total waste of money
Asurion does not provide boxes for shipping to Asurion for repair. The manufacturers also do not sell shipping boxes. You can't store a large product box with its rigid foam pieces. So it is impossible to ship to Asurion to get repairs.
Also, Asurion does not promise how long it will take for repair and if Asurion cannot obtain a replacement unit you will not be able...

HORRIBLE PROGRAM
I Have to mail back my office printer that I use every day, instead of having you replace it immediately. This leaves me without a printer, or I have to buy another printer from you in the interim. I have no idea how long this process will take, but it is not good. I used to be able to go to the store and just switch it out for a machine that works.

Difficult to File Claim
I purchased the protection plan, but Asurion seems to have dubious business practices. They don’t have any kind of confirmation page or email that gets sent out when you try to file a claim, but that exact date is crucial to whether your claim gets denied. If you talk to customer support, apparently neither they nor their managers have access to that information eithe...

A good deal
After I got my new printer, I was able to call Asurion and using log me in. They were able to do the set up remotely which I greatly appreciated. I am also sure I will feel more comfortable having the four year protection plan. All in all a good deal.

Has last printer HP TONER TYPE paid over$225 in April of 2020. I didnt purchase insurance.. feel little more secure having it tho it #59.99.

It came in handy when I got stuck...
I used the tech service when trying to set up the 1st two printers I got and had to return. I almost used them to set up the 3rd printer, which provides duplex printing/copying. I hope I don't have to use the service to cancel the ads to buy more printers and services, as they are getting annoying.
