Tips: Speed Up Your PC

Looking to speed up your PC? You might try over clocking or adjusting your visual effects settings.

Are you hot for overclocking?

Overclocking involves adjusting computer components so they operate at a higher clock rate for better performance. But a big threat to overclocked components is heat; the increase in speed can damage hardware if proper cooling mechanisms aren't in place. Since overclocking often voids your warranties, don't mess around with it unless you've got the process down cold.

What price beauty?

A simple way to speed up your PC is turning off unnecessary visual effects like fading icons, animations and dropdown shadows. Go to Visual Effects in your Control Panel and adjust for best performance. You can always switch back to the fancy visuals, but we bet you won't even miss them when they're gone.
