Tips: Windows 7 Secrets

Quick changes to your default settings can save you time and make your preferences match your needs.

  1. A typical user restarts a PC more often than she shuts it down. Why not change the default Shutdown power button to Restart? Just right-click on Start, select Properties and click Restart from the list of power buttons.
  2. Did you know you can add a link to the Start Menu so you can search the Web with your default browser? Run gpedit.msc from the Start Menu search box to start the Group Policy Editor. In the left pane, go to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu > Taskbar. In the right pane, right-click to edit and then enable Add Search Internet Link to Start Menu.
