Demystifying Windows 10 Laptops and Desktops for Your Business

Updated February 2016

For PC users, it’s a Windows 10 world –– millions of people have already seen the changes firsthand. What does this mean for your business? Should you upgrade? Choose new devices? What about support? And accessories? So. Many. Questions.

Fear not. We’ve done the heavy lifting to make choosing Windows 10 PCs, accessories and support services less stressful. Here’s what you need to know about Windows 10 small business features.

1. New functions, familiar feel. Windows 8 changed the face of PCs. And Windows 10 has built upon this platform to be even more user friendly for keyboard- and mouse-based desktops and laptops. Here are a few key changes for Windows 10 PCs:

  • The start menu in the lower left corner is back. The live tiles from Windows 8 remain, and can be customized to put favorite programs and apps at your fingertips.
  • Meet Cortana, Microsoft’s virtual assistant. It’s like Siri, but for Windows. It’s seamlessly integrated into the PC start-up menu so you can multi-task by talking to your computer.
  • More security for users. Features, such as data encryption upgrades and identity theft protection, help ensure your business is safer than ever from system attacks.
  • Universal apps. Thanks to Microsoft’s Universal Windows Platform, a single version of an app will work on every Windows device you own for a consistent, seamless experience.

2. Laptops are powerfully portable. Whether your office is a coffee shop, a shared workspace, your kitchen table –– or all of the above –– you can’t beat the flexibility of a laptop. With enhanced specs and business-friendly features, you won’t sacrifice performance and functionality for portability.

3. Desktops still have their place. If your business needs Windows 10 PCs for permanent use in a stationary workspace, larger (or multiple) displays, or is likely to upgrade internal components such as video cards, hard drives or RAM, a desktop system could be right for you.

4. Don’t forget to accessorize. Once you find that perfect Windows 10 PC, you’re not quite done. Because a laptop needs a case, and a desktop needs a keyboard and mouse to be fully functional.

After you upgrade, avoid downtime and enjoy peace of mind:

1. On-demand IT support. When technical issues arise, outside tech support services have your back without breaking the bank. There’s an array of choices to ensure you get coverage targeted to your specific business needs. Look for flexible features like these:

  • Supports single or multiple users.
  • Real-time U.S.-based telephone and remote tech services, as well as on-site help if needed.
  • Covers hardware (computers, printers, scanners and external drives), plus network and wireless access, email and virus/malware removal.

2. Protect your investment. No matter which Windows 10 computer you choose, consider a protection plan. You’ll stay productive by getting your machine up and running ASAP in the event of any issues.

  • Get coverage for screen issues and hard drive failure due to mechanical and electrical issues from normal use.
  • For you and your team, accidents will happen. Consider optional coverage that includes drops and spills.
